New Horizon High School Pantry is having their Second Annual Soup and Sock Drive now until December 1st.

Please donate soup or other non-perishable food items

New Horizon Food and Clothing Pantry is a non-profit extension of New Horizon High School and Kinport Middle School. It is funded exclusively by the kind donations of individuals and businesses in the community. Designed to assist students’ basic needs to ensure they can be academically successful. We have found that students who have their basic needs met are more likely to be present in the classroom. In turn, they are more likely to establish a healthier relationship with their environment (both the teachers and learning environment). This increases their likelihood for academic success where otherwise they may have failed or exhibited negative behaviors connected to the lack of physical support. We assess students’ needs  through interviews, surveys and family inquiry. Chronic deprivation and neglect in homes leads to students who are anxious, distracted and untrusting, marking a sometimes career-long struggle with academics, teachers, other students and support staff. In providing a global approach to their education, we have seen remarkable progress in students who historically have struggled to even attend school, let alone do well in it. When they stop having to worry about what they’ll eat that night, or even things as simple as having soap and hygiene products, their focus and clarity increase dramatically.
