IDEO State High School Dance Festival On Saturday, April 15, 2017, Idaho Dance Education Organization is hosting a State High School Dance Festival. The purpose of this festival is to bring Idaho high school dancers together, to prepare high school dancers to be college dance majors and dance professionals, and to celebrate and learn about the art form of dance. Presenters are university dance professors from several Idaho universities. The festival is held at a different university each year. This year it is being held at Brigham Young University Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho. This way they can see opportunities that are available to them. We will try and have adjudications and things when we can plan further in advance. Further, most high school teams will not be in their ‘season.’ 4- Spring Hill Suites Marriott and AmericInn are both nice hotels in Rexburg and everything is relative close in Rexburg. I am working on setting up the host hotel to be the Spring Hill Suites Marriott. They were not available over the weekend—but I will try to let you know cost by tomorrow. 5- Presenters and Classes will be those that you mentioned—BYU-I, UI, ISU. We are relying heavily on the aspect that the intent that this is collegiately sponsored to facilitate education and career goals. We can add more classes than is shown above depending on enrollment. Class Descriptions: Contemporary/Modern Technique—a technique class that integrates the movement vocabulary and approach that you would receive when attending a collegiate technique class. The class is focused on concepts and moving rather than ‘steps.’ Improv and Create—then Show and Tell—is an improvisation class that leads to creation. Using improvisation as a choreographic process to explore, and then add form and structure to show the other groups. (The idea is that the dancers will work with new groups of dancers and also a new approach to creating). Specialty Classes—World dance, tap, broadway or hip hop. Try a new style! Mock Audition—the dancers come prepared with a 60 second solo that they would use to audition for a college dance program and receive feedback. Better now then later… We may have more classes depending on enrollment. We have several spaces, so we could probably have up to eight classes happening at the same time, if needed. 6- Other things—we do have to abide by the BYU-I Dress Code. When in the dance studios the dancers may wear leggings and tank tops, leotards and tights, but once they leave the area they will need to be fully clothed in at least short-sleeve shirt and joggers/warm-ups.
